Support our work Our events Walks Saturday 12th August - Snowdon with AFG & Hiking Summits Snowdon located in Snowdonia National Park, it is designated as a national nature reserve for its rare flora and fauna. The name Snowdon is from the Old English for "snow hill", the Welsh name – Yr Wyddfa – means "the tumulus" or "the barrow", which refers to the cairn thrown over the legendary giant Rhitta Gawr after his defeat by King Arthur. This impressive mountain is also linked to other figures from Arthurian legend, like the legendary Afanc (water monster) and the Tylwyth Teg (fairies). Saturday 26th August - Scafel Pike with AFG & Freedom Expeditions Scafell Pike, 978 metres, is not only England's highest mountain but arguably one of the most stunning because of its remote location and breathtaking views. Most Wasdale adventures start with the beautiful drive to the valley head with sweeping views of the fells and Wastwater – a favourite with photographers and a perfect place to stop for a picnic. It's not only England’s highest mountain but it's also a wonderful day out that will reward you with extensive views of the surrounding fells and you can see all the way to the west coast – on a very clear day you may see the Isle of Man and Scotland.
